Gear Review: Markbass CMD102P Bass Amp

MarkBass is great for providing top quality sound that’s also very versatile for different styles of music and players. The MarkBass CMD 102P is a high quality Italian-made 2×12 solid state combo amp that’s also slanted, which helps to hear your bass clear and crisp, though it can also be used vertically. It’s also available to rent by the hour here at Soundhouse so you can try it out without commitment. The solid state component is a Little Mark II preamp, which has great versatility for any kind of style. The amp provides surprisingly 500W at 4ohm or 300W at 8ohm. Plenty of power to work with!

In terms of some features of the amp, the most important aspect is the master control. It’s important to be able to turn down the volume without affecting tone, so you usually can’t go wrong with any master controlled amps. On top of that you get an extended EQ control, including Low, Mid Frequency Low, High Frequency Low, and High. Unlike other EQ controls, the MarkBass ones are very smooth and sensitive enough to be able to get a great variety of tones, but not so much that it makes it difficult to get the right tone.

Plus, the amp comes with two great built-in filters: the Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator (VLE) and the Variable Pre-shape Filter (VPF). These help deliver a crystal clear quality, with a crispy high-end and deep punchy low end by filtering out certain frequencies in order to turn this amp into a very modern sounding one.

VLE and VPF Filters

This amp is made of high-grade, multi-ply poplar with perfect internal seal to deliver the best sound possible. The amp is stacked with two 10” B&C neodymium speakers as well as a piezo tweeter. Some extra features include a clip warning light and a grilled screen. It comes with a balanced XLR out for an easier setup live or in-ear systems and well as a ground lift switch to eliminate any hum that may be present. Lastly, let’s not forget about the very useful built-in effects loop, which is very useful to plug your effects through so that if anything happens to the chain, your main sound won’t be affected.

Another feature that is often forgotten about in amps is portability. This amp is one of the most lightweight bass amps on the market due to high-quality speaker components and efficient construction, as it’s specifically designed to be easy on your back without sacrificing sound or power. It’s a great amp for gigs – if you’re tired of hauling fridge-sized amps, this amp could be a good change for you. Most people are surprised at the power of this amp, it can definitely compare to amps that are larger in size. With these high-quality components also comes amazing durability. We have two of these amps here at Soundhouse and can attest to the fact that they are built to last.

All these components work together to create this lightweight, sleek and versatile looking bass amp that can deliver a professional tone for any kind of style.
